My Stance on AI

The use of AI-generated content is a much-talked-about topic and one that's seen a lot of (rightful) hand-wringing in recent months and years. It's with that in mind that I've created the following statement to clarify my stance on AI with regard to how I do my work and run my business.

As a content creator, I feel it is not in my best interest to use AI content generators (text, image, video, etc.) as part of my work. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹AI is well known for stealing work from content creators just like me, without compensation, in an effort to create something quickly, while cutting artists and creators out of the process -- all while using their work to train the AI on how that work can and should be created. In my work, I might use AI to spark an idea, give me a starting point, or narrow down my choices,  but you will not find AI-generated content in the finished product. Some tools that I use (such as Canva) have AI-powered features, like the Magic Edit functionality or background removal tools. And these tools have, at times, been part of my work. But you will never find me creating an image, graphic, or text from scratch using AI.

I believe that AI tools have a place for tasks that save us time or manual labor, but not when it steals work from artists and takes jobs away from workers, all while being ethically fraught, morally ambiguous, and a privacy nightmare. That's simply not something I can support as part of my business. If you've hired me to do a job, you can count on me to do it myself, rather than using AI to do the heavy lifting. For me, AI tools are for light lifting only. They are for sorting through large data sets or sparking inspiration, not for cutting humans out of the process entirely.

That said, if you are a client or an individual who has hired me to work on a project or provide a service and AI-generated content is part of your business, I will not interfere with your decision. It is your business and you can do with it what you like. I will help you get your previously-generated AI content in place on your website, your social media, or wherever you need it -- but I will I will leave any prompt writing or AI-based content generation in your hands.

If you have any questions or concerns about my current AI stance, please don't hesitate to reach out to me using the Contact form on my site. I've linked to it below for your convenience.
